My earliest childhood memories were filled with going to “the yard” with my Dad. “The yard” was short for Capital or Capital Auto Wrecking, Capital Auto Salvage, Capital Wheels or whatever else it had been re-branded as over it’s 60 year history. Capital was our Huniu family business founded in 1955 by my grandfather Mike and his cousin Eddy, and in recent years taken over by my Uncle Norm. And as Capital marks it’s 60th Anniversary, my Uncle Norm is finally ready to retire and in turn retiring the business. I had a chance to walk the yard one last time this past week as the skeleton crew dismantles the steel racks that once housed thousands of wheels, wheel covers and auto parts that lined every inch of the 2 square acres. Here are a few of images I grabbed for the Huniu history scrapbook!
